JTWoodworks is an ecommerce manufacturing business built around original physical products. The work spans product design, prototyping, repeatable production, pricing, marketplace selling, fulfillment, customer service, and the operational systems connecting them.
Product development
A prototype is not yet a repeatable product.
An idea has to become something customers understand, value, and can buy consistently. That means refining the design, selecting materials, accounting for production time, documenting the process, and making quality repeatable rather than accidental.
Economics
Price has to reflect the whole workflow.
Material cost is only part of the picture. Production time, labor, packaging, marketplace fees, fulfillment, and the realities of different sales channels all affect whether a product is sustainable. Working through those questions eventually helped expose the problem that became Maker Forge.
Operations
Selling creates a system of responsibilities.
Once a product is available, the work expands into listings, inventory, production planning, order handling, shipping, customer communication, issue resolution, and incremental automation. The difference between making something and building a business around it lives in those repeated operational details.
What it changed
A business operator sees software differently.
Running JTWoodworks made the consequences of pricing decisions, workflow friction, incomplete information, and difficult tools tangible. It brought software engineering closer to the daily reality of the people using the systems and reinforced the value of practical tools that fit the work.
The connection
A business problem became a software product.
The need to understand product cost, pricing, and profitability across a real maker business became the starting point for Maker Forge.
